10 March 2010 — I'm currently going through a rough patch, hence the reason World's Finest Podcast, Earth-2.net: The Show, and Bigger on the Inside were recently delayed. Due to that, this is going to be a very light week. I hope to have WFP 74 posted soon, but I can't confirm a date. Everything should be back on track by next week, however.

Earth-2.net could really use your support right now. As the site and forums grow, so do the fees it takes to run it all. If you can, please visit the donations page and help us keep the site running as smoothly as possible. Cheers!

369: Few names are synonymous with modern comic books, but one of those very few is Brian Michael Bendis — the man who's helped reshape Marvel. From his radical take on Spider-Man, Daredevil, and the Avengers, Bendis has firmly cemented himself as Marvel's go-to guy when it comes to superheroes. But what about his noir-laced crime fiction? 356: A new cohost, plus a severe lack of gin and tonic, plus plot holes and retcons equals what? If you guessed Saw VI, you're the lucky winner! (Well, "winner" used loosely, as no one is a winner when it comes to this pile of rubbish.)
.: 2:14:52 :: 62.0 MB :: 14 November 2009 :.

355: Des offers a theory as to why John Byrne is working on Angel vs. Frankenstein, both guys are baffled by Azrael #1, they're a little split on Cowboy Ninja Viking #1, Mike loses his shit when discussing one of the stories in DCU Halloween Special 2009, and they can't make much sense of GI Joe: Snake Eyes #1.

As an added bonus: singing!
.: 3:14:27 :: 89.3 MB :: 24 October 2009 :.

349: It's more senseless Hulk-on-Hulk violence in Hulk: Hulk No More. Then a series of one-off tales build towards something greater in Scalped: High Lonesome. And lastly, John Reid forges a legacy for himself as the mysterious masked man in The Lone Ranger: Now and Forever.
.: 56:05 :: 26.0 MB :: 20 October 2009 :.

348: During this edition of 1st Issue Special, Des and Mike break format! .: 2:02:46 :: 56.5 MB :: 03 October 2009 :.

344: Two of the books Dan and Mike reviewed this week are heavily praised, while one is thoroughly trashed. Really, though, it doesn't take a genius to figure out which of the following received the verbal beating: Fantastic Four: The Master of Doom, Ultimatum, and JLA: The Nail.
.: 1:06:36 :: 30.9 MB :: 29 September 2009 :.

343: It's time for another round of Superman Power Records: The Man from Krypton, City Under Siege, The Killer Bees, and The Star of Bangalore.
.: 46:33 :: 21.5 MB :: 26 September 2009 :.

342: 28 Days Later #1, Army of Darkness: Ash Saves Obama #1, Batman: The Widening Gyre #1, and The Darkness / Pitt #1 are all about zombies and demons. But Fantastic Four #570 sees the debut of a brand new creative team, one that could push the title back to its rightful place as Marvel's flagship comic book.
.: 1:11:14 :: 33.0 MB :: 22 September 2009 :.

341: At the end of the last Waiting for the Trade segment, Dan and Mike each named two sets of comics they wish were currently collected. In case you missed it, the books they chose are Miracleman: A Dream of Flying, Sabretooth: Deathhunt, Iceman, and Ruse: Enter the Detective. Also, Mike does something absolutely evil to Dan.

.: 1:11:00 :: 32.8 MB :: 12 September 2009 :.

339: The moment the announcement was made that Disney had purchased Marvel, fearful questions spread across the Internet. Will Disney tone down the language and violence in the comic books? .: 1:12:43 :: 33.6 MB :: 26 August 2009 :.

334: The comics Des and Mike spoke about this week were all over the place in terms of quality, but one of them was a very pleasant surprise. But which of these was it: Adventure Comics #1, Incarnate #1, Luke Cage Noir #1, Red Herring #1, or Ultimate Comics Avengers #1?
.: 1:18:36 :: 36.3 MB :: 25 August 2009 :.

333: Most comic book fans who attend conventions are polite people who are willing to wait in lines for autographs and sketches. .: 48:28 :: 22.4 MB :: 06 August 2009 :.

328: Sometimes something is so bad it's good. Well, that's the case with these four hilariously bad Superman Power Records: Alien Creatures, Weatherspoon's Catalyst, PO Box 65, and Mystery of the Mad Minnows.
.: 49:45 :: 23.2 MB :: 31 July 2009 :.

327: Though they may have ended the Is It Wednesday Yet? segment some months back, that doesn't mean Des and Mike are done talking about monthly comic books. .: 1:16:29 :: 35.3 MB :: 28 July 2009 :.

326: This week Dan and Mike discuss Batman: Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?, Spider-Man: Torment, and X-Men First Class: Tomorrow's Brightest. And while one of the books causes Mike to rant, another brings endless praise from both hosts. On top of that, a major announcement is made.

.: 1:07:04 :: 30.8 MB :: 05 July 2009 :.

322: As characters become more and more popular, it only makes sense for publishers to feature them in more and more comic books. However, sometimes a character can become too popular and used too much. In this episode of Earth-2.net: The Show, Des and Mike discuss those characters that are overexposed!

318: May 1984 saw the release of Secrect Wars #1, the first chapter in what would become the 12-part series that defined comic book events. Now, 25 years later, Dan Toland and Michael Sims discuss the limited series had on superhero comic books. .: 55:50 :: 26.0 MB :: 22 May 2009 :.

.: 1:06:26 :: 30.8 MB :: 13 March 2009 :.

305: Tweaking the origins of superheroes is nothing new, but in 1985 DC rebooted their entire line of comics — allowing a handful of creative masterminds the opportunity to reshape classic characters. The three biggest, of course, were comprised of DC's Trinity: Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. In this edition of Waiting for the Trade, Dan and Mike take a look at those stories (Batman: Year One, The Man of Steel and Wonder Woman: Gods and Mortals) to see how well they did their job, and if they withstood the test of time.
.: 1:17:44 :: 35.7 MB :: 10 March 2009 :.

304: Without batting an eyelash, most comic book readers will decry the 1990s — claiming the decade to be a creative cesspool for the industry. 109: Though Earth-2.net and Earth-2.net: The Show didn't examine DC's weekly series 52, the same can't be said about DC's newest weekly effort: Countdown. Desmond Reddick and Michael Sims sat down to discuss the first four issues (51, 50, 49 and 48), and, based on the length of this episode, they clearly had a lot to say about the event. Does this story take place on New Earth? How is it that everyone knows that Jason Todd is Red Hood and was the second Robin? (Along those same lines, if they know that about Todd, how do they not know Bruce Wayne is Batman?) What course of action would cause Mike to drop all DC books? What will be the outcome once we're done counting down? All these questions and more are addressed inside this episode!

100: It's episode 100, baby! The big one we've been working towards for a year and a half is in the books, and we celebrated the occasion by covering all things Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! In a marathon of epic proportions, Jenny and Mike reviewed all four feature films. Never have they spent so much time discussing one topic, but the Turtles deserve such an honor (even if two of the films should be erased from the collective consciousness). Not only that, but Ian, Kellen, Desmond and D.W. all contributed to the Turtle lovefest. If you ever loved the Turtles, this is the episode you've been waiting for!
.: 7:15:27 :: 199.0 MB :: 08 June 2007 :.

099: Episode 100 is almost here! In case you've missed our previous announcements, another is made concerning 100 and 101! Beyond that, Mike has a rather long rant about "pompous bums," followed by Ian's thoughts on Spider-Man 3.
.: 1:17:01 :: 35.2 MB :: 25 May 2007 :.

098: Though they agree that Spider-Man 3 was rather lackluster, Jenny and Mike vehemently disagree on the characterization of Mary Jane. (One thinks she's an unsympathetic character portrayed by a hack actress who doesn't resemble the part. The other believes MJ epitomizes how young women think and act.) When that's all said and done, Desmond Reddick pops in with another installment of Dread Media. Also: Episodes 100 and 101 are right around the corner, and we need your help!
.: 1:52:22 :: 51.4 MB :: 18 May 2007 :.

092: Mike corrects an error before handing the show over to Desmond Reddick for Dread Media.
.: 55:43 :: 25.5 MB :: 27 March 2007 :.

There's also a frank dialogue about how the media handled the major news spawning out of Captain America #25, and what the comic book industry can do to entice the masses.
.: 1:49:57 :: 50.3 MB :: 23 March 2007 :.

Quickie 001: December's trivia question is asked, and a new segment is born! Cower in fear, all ye who enter... er, listen. Cower!
.: 25:33 :: 11.7 MB :: 06 December 2005 :.

006 [w/ spoilers]: Essentially the same as the unspoiled version, except this one spoils the second half of Invincible: The Ultimate Collection, vol. 1. You've been warned!
.: 1:07:45 :: 31.0 MB :: 29 November 2005 :.

006: What is DCBS and why has it caused Mike to end his 15 year relationship with the local comic shop? Despite the hefty price, Invincible: The Ultimate Collection, vol. 1 is a must-have comic for fans new and old. (So is Marvel Team-Up #14.) Half-Life 2 is a near perfect port of the original PC title, unfortunately placed load times and all. And while Mike loves Dawn of the Dead (2004), Jenny wasn't all that crazy about it.
.: 59:57 :: 27.4 MB :: 29 November 2005 :.

005: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is out, and Jenny has her review. The Superman Returns teaser trailer gave both of us goose bumps. Hardcore fanboys will love the faithful continuity of Green Lantern: Rebirth, but not so dedicated readers might find it difficult to understand. And while Rob Zombie's The Devil's Rejects is better than House of 1000 Corpses, it isn't necessarily good.
.: 1:08:41 :: 31.4 MB :: 22 November 2005 :.

DVD Commentary: American Psycho 2: The richly satirical American Psycho is a classic horror / thriller if there ever was one, and is one of the few that demands its viewers think. American Psycho 2, not so much.
.: 1:29:20 :: 40.9 MB :: 18 November 2005 :.
.: instructions: Place the DVD into your player, and turn on your iPod as you wait for the main menu to load. Cue up this episode and await further instructions from us before starting the movie. :.

004: WE3 might be grossly violent, but it's one of the most heartwarming and bittersweet stories ever told. Despite his initial disdain for the game, Mike's decided to give Soulcalibur III a second chance. And the rabid Saw fans have their say!
.: 1:21:30 :: 37.3 MB :: 15 November 2005 :.

003: We've decided that Astonishing X-Men: Gifted is a must-read comic book, but what about the follow-up? DC Comics has finally released Showcase, their black and white answer to Marvel's Essentials line of TPBs, and they're so awesome! And we answer some feedback.
.: 1:03:06 :: 28.8 MB :: 08 November 2005 :.

002: I examine Saw II a little further. Nintendogs is cute and oddly addictive, but is it a game? And, you know, I'm not all that excited about the imminent DVD release of Revenge of the Sith. Plus, the first monthly trivia question is asked.
.: 15:23 :: 7.0 MB :: 01 November 2005 :.

001: In the inaugural episode of Earth-2.net: The Show I discuss the brand new PlayStation 2 title Shadow of the Colossus, the "Crossover" storyline spanning from Ultimate Fantastic Four #21 to 23, and the upcoming Saw II.
.: 34:11 :: 32.8 MB :: 25 October 2005 :.
